Kindred Centre Holiday Message, December/Hakihea 2024

December 14, 2023

Christmas Greetings

The end of the year can be a time to reflect and as part of our reflection, Kindred Centre acknowledges those with whom we have worked closely and to those who have supported us in our work. Thank you!!

The Māori whakataukī, 'He waka eke noa,' or in English, 'We are all in this together we hope expresses the value of connection to others.

Changes in routine due to holidays are a pause to rest, recharge, reflect and have some fun with family and friends.

However holidays can also be stressful. Key support people are temporarily unavailable even though challenges associated with mental health and recovery continue. Hard won wellbeing gains can feel uncertain and people who feel low resilience can experience anxiety as to how they may cope.

Kindred Centre acknowledges the importance of the support that can be offered by the emergency and telephone counselling services. Maintaining stability can be enhanced by seeking support and below are a list of services available throughout the holiday period. The Mental Health Foundation link includes a number of issue specific helplines that may not be available 24/7.

Holiday Arrangements, December 20th 2024 to January 20th 2025

Kindred Centre counsellors are on holiday from Friday the 20th December 2024 until Monday 20th January 2025. Our emails will be monitored on a semi-regular basis and delays are very likely in our usual response time to you.

Kindred Centre Developments 2024

Helen completed her Small Figures training and is continuing to offer counselling as an ACC Registered Counsellor under the new ACC Sensitive Claims Service. She is offering group work with Equine Assisted Therapy and is working with the Equine Therapeutic Community in North Canterbury offering professional development and supervision.

Monique completed her 3rd year studying Te Reo Māori at Te Wānanga ō Āotearoa. She also attended The Grief Centre conference, ‘Let’s Talk about Grief.’. Monique now offers in person appointments on a Monday at Selway House in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.

Monique describes her mahi/work as counselling, clinical supervision offering services within the new ACC Sensitive Claims Service and EAP.

There is a consistent demand for qualified and experienced counsellors and we welcome enquiries from counsellors who may see a match for their personal brand with a profile on Kindred Centre.

Meri kirihemete, we look forward to meeting up with you again in 2025.

The final word for this Christmas Blog is an inspiring one from the Tibetan Buddhist Spiritual Leader, The Dalai Lama.
